Want to join me in supporting a good cause? Well, it’s that time of year where GivingTuesday comes around and helps your favorite, local organization with fundraising. GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world from now until December 3, 2019 and every day.

Partners In Ministry's (PIM) programs provide essential support and empowerment services for the Sandhill Region’s youth and families entrenched in cycles of poverty, hunger, and housing insecurity. With a two-pronged approach, PIM’s program shores up the basic needs of safe housing and food access, while concurrently addressing educational and social inequity, college/career preparedness, job readiness, and connection to community support.

The ministry was set in motion twelve years ago as a feeding ground for mission and ministry to address the issues of poverty in communities with the poor. From its inception, PIM has endeavored to be a ‘one-stop center’ for individuals and families in our community and utilizes a variety of programs to achieve three main areas of need: lack of supervised safe spaces for children and youth; lack of adequate housing; and lack of jobs and opportunities to earn a living wage and the direct and indirect consequences of these circumstances. These include, but are not limited to: the lack of parental supervision/involvement, teen pregnancy, gang warfare, substance abuse, crime, high unemployment, poverty, low-income and low academic performing school districts.

This status is affecting the quality of life for the children and youth and places them “at-risk,” as many struggle academically, emotionally, and socially. This has also resulted in a substantial educational gap for our children as they begin each school year. PIM has aggressively worked to address these significant community challenges through four signature programs:

  • The SYSTEM Program (Strengthening Youth in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) is a year-round after-school and summer program which provides a safe, structured learning environment for at-risk 3rd through 8th graders who are performing in the 40th percentile or below in reading and math.

  • The YES (Youth Empowered to Succeed) program targets at-risk youth (ages 13-24) facing challenges such as school dropouts, literacy skills deficiencies, homelessness, pregnancy, offenders, completion of an educational program, or securing a job. The YES program prepares the youth through three pathways: two-year and four-year secondary education through colleges and universities, enlisting in the military, or entering the workforce. The program also offers workforce preparedness, education, and training necessary to meet the needs of regional employers.
  • Rehab Outreach And Recovery (ROAR) seeks to combat community deterioration by helping to rehabilitate substandard homes in blighted neighborhoods and guard against future deterioration.

  • The Resource and Referral Center is a ‘one-stop center’ for families who are unable to meet basic needs through a one-stop location. It serves as a safe, healthy place, free of drugs and violence for at-risk youth and their families to learn skills, socialize, and positively impact their community.

PIM’s aim is to expand our campus to welcome our ever-growing communities. PIM is seeking to build a Community Leader Center on the grounds, including a youth center, counseling suites, technological, and gymnasium updates to our computer lab. We believe we are improving lives for good, and one central center to collect our services is integral to making this happen.

PIM has teamed with GivingTuesday for the greater cause of the Gateway District. PIM has set a fundraising goal of $10,000.00. Your contribution and support will make an impact. Whether you donate $5 or $500, every little bit helps! Without the help of our countless supporters and donors, we cannot do this alone. DONATING and SPREADING the word about #GivingTuesday and #PartnersInMinistry’s fundraiser will also make a huge impact for the Gateway District.

Everyone has something to give. It’s about the collective spirit of generosity that brings change to our communities when people give their voice, their time, their talent, or their money. Throughout our communities, nonprofit organizations are working tirelessly every day to make a difference in our communities.
